Smile Makeover

A smile makeover can define many things that we do in dentistry from something as simple as a tooth whitening to maybe as extensive as a full mouth reconstruction and anything in between. A good candidate for a smile makeover would be someone who is dissatisfied with the appearance of their teeth or the appearance of their smile. It would be a person who has other restorative needs or a person that may have some inefficiencies in their chewing. A good candidate for a smile makeover would be someone that may have dark or stained teeth, someone that may have broken teeth. Oftentimes when we're talking about a smile makeover, we're referring to teeth that are being restored with some type of porcelain restoration or composite restoration. The treatment process for a smile makeover if we are considering something like veneers to restore the teeth would be initial photos and information gathering. Oftentimes we will have our lab create the ideal tooth shape in a model or in a wax-up and we'll use that as our temporary prosthesis. After the teeth are prepared at that first appointment, the patient will wear that temporary and we can work out their likes and dislikes of the new shape, or the new contours, or the new position of the teeth. It's oftentimes an emotional experience. They are experiencing feelings and things that they never anticipated before. They get positive feedback from their friends and family and they have been able to get themselves into something that they have been looking for or maybe wanting for a long time.
