Dentures

Missing teeth can make everyday tasks more difficult, but you don't have to live with reduced function. Dentures are a customizable solution that can fill the gaps in your smile or complete an entire dental arch. Nordhus Dentistry in Wichita, KS, provides durable and lifelike solutions.

Afraid of Dental Work? We'll Keep You Comfortable

We understand that dentures and other dental procedures can cause patients anxiety, so we go above and beyond to ensure patient comfort. In addition to offering blankets, pillows, and noise-canceling headphones during treatment, we can provide sedation options to help you relax.

Explore Dentures With Dr. Nordhus

Dr. Byron J. Nordhus explains how dentures can be a worthwhile solution for patients with several missing teeth. He can explain additional benefits and determine your candidacy for this restoration during a consultation at his office in Wichita.

A Versatile Solution That Can Fit Your Needs and Lifestyle

While we also offer crowns and bridges to replace 1-3 missing teeth in a row, dentures are better suited to address significant tooth loss. Your options include:
Person holding partial denture

Partial Denture

A partial denture can restore several teeth in a row or areas of tooth loss in multiple areas of your mouth. Partial dentures are recommended for patients who still have remaining healthy teeth.

Full dentures

Full Denture

A full denture can restore an entire arch of missing teeth on the top or bottom arch. These dentures are molded to fit the gum and bone ridges in the mouth.

Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures are prosthetic teeth supported on an acrylic base. They are removable and must be taken out every night to be soaked in a denture solution. Though they are less expensive than alternative options, many patients don't like them because they tend to move around in the mouth.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-Supported Dentures

Dr. Nordhus can place 6-8 dental implants to support a denture and hold it firmly in place. Many people prefer this method because the denture won't slip out of place when eating, speaking, or laughing. Dr. Nordhus can surgically place implants at his Wichita, KS, office.

Smiling woman

All-on-4

All-on-4® dental implants can support an entire full-arch restoration on just four strategically placed implants. This option can allow patients with low bone density to receive dentures without first undergoing a bone grafting procedure. We can bring in a specialist for advanced cases.

Understanding the Denture Timeline

We work with a dental lab to create dentures that are durable, reliable, and lifelike.
We work with a dental lab to create dentures that are durable, reliable, and lifelike.

Preparatory Procedures

Damaged or decayed teeth must be extracted and gum disease must be addressed before you can receive your denture. If you are receiving an implant-supported denture, the implants must be placed and given enough time to integrate with your jawbone.

Impressions

We will take digital impressions of your dental arches to craft a denture that fits comfortably in your mouth.

Dental Lab

Your impressions will be sent to a dental lab where specialists will create your denture.

Placement

Once we receive your full or partial denture from the lab, you can return to our Wichita office. Dr. Nordhus will check the fit of your denture before securing it in place with dental adhesive or attaching it to your implants.

Caring for Your Denture and Making It Last

Dental care is important even if you have prosthetic teeth. To maintain a healthy environment for your denture and help it last as long as possible, we recommend:

Cleaning Your Traditional Denture

If your denture is removable, take it out every night to brush it with a soft-bristle toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste. Be sure to brush your tongue, gums, and remaining teeth, as well. Soak your denture in a cleansing solution overnight to remove bacteria and let your gums rest.

Storing Your Denture in a Safe Place

When you're not wearing your denture, store it in a safe place so it can't get damaged. We recommend placing it in a glass of water or denture solution to maintain its shape.

Brushing Your Implant-Supported Denture

If you have an implant-supported denture, treat it like you would natural teeth: brush, floss, and use mouthwash regularly.

Attending Checkups With Your Dentist

Visit your dentist every six months for a routine checkup. This will allow your dentist to address any concerns before they become serious problems and let you know when it's time to replace your denture.

When cared for properly, dentures can last 10-20 years. Dental implants can last for the rest of your life.
