What Are All-on-4 Dental Implants?

Implants act as artificial tooth roots to support restorations such as denturesdental crowns, and dental bridges. For patients missing all their natural teeth along a dental arch, six to eight implants are usually used to support a denture. However, patients with jawbone deterioration may not qualify for traditional dental implants without bone grafting.

The All-on-4 method uses four strategically placed implants to maximize the existing jawbone. This means patients can forgo preparatory bone grafting.

Benefits of All-on-4 Treatment

Restored Function

Patients with significant tooth loss often have difficulty eating and speaking. The All-on-4 implant method allows you to eat the foods you love and speak with confidence once more.

Improved Appearance

Many patients report feeling self-conscious about their missing teeth and hide their smiles as a result. Implants can give you a natural-looking smile you can't help but share.

Better Jawbone Health

The jaw relies on the tooth roots for stimulation to remain healthy. Implants provide this stimulation to stop and prevent further bone loss in the jaw.

Don't Wait
Request a Consultation Today

Even a single missing tooth can cause the jawbone to atrophy. The longer you wait, the more you risk further bone loss. Dental implants are considered the gold standard for tooth replacement and provide numerous benefits. Implants are also the only restorative dentistry procedure that can stop and prevent this bone loss. Our Wichita dentist provides All-on-4 treatment using advanced technology and sedation dentistry for the highest level of care possible.

If you've been told you do not qualify for traditional implant placement but want to explore your dental implant options further, contact our dental office in Wichita, KS, today to request a consultation. Use our online form or give us a call at:

All-on-4 Dental Implant Timeline

Your treatment will be customized to your unique needs, but your timeline will generally involve several steps:
The All-on-4 dental implant method can allow you to eat with ease and smile with confidence once again.
The All-on-4 dental implant method can allow you to eat with ease and smile with confidence once again.

Treatment Planning

You will first have a consultation at our office in Wichita, KS, with Dr. Nordhus. He will examine your mouth and discuss your goals to determine if you are a candidate for All-on-4 treatment. Once that is determined, he will begin planning treatment. Any preparatory treatment, such as bone grafting or tooth extractions, will be done first.

Anesthetic

Before your dentist begins implant placement, he will numb the area using a local anesthetic. Dr. Nordhus also offers sedation dentistry options, which are ideal for dental procedures such as dental implants. This will ensure you are completely comfortable during your treatment.

Dental Implant Placement

Once you are numbed, Dr. Nordhus will insert four implants into the jaw. These dental implants are made of durable titanium. Two of the posts are placed at an angle to maximize bone material.

Healing

You will heal over the course of three to six months. This healing period allows for the titanium implants to fuse to the jawbone in a process called osseointegration. You will then return to our office for your abutments, and a second healing period of a few weeks will follow.

Impressions

Your dentist will take impressions of your mouth to craft your custom denture. Our Wichita practice uses an iTero® intraoral scanner for comfortable digital impressions. There is no need for messy putty impressions.

Denture Placement

Once you are healed and your denture is ready, you will have another appointment. Your dentist will secure your denture to the abutments and check for fit and comfort. Once the denture is in place, you are ready to enjoy your new smile.

Take a Closer Look at How All-on-4 Dental Implants Are Placed

Four dental implants are placed along a single arch. The implants are inserted at strategic angles and locations to maximize your existing jawbone. Once you've healed, abutments are attached to the dental implants, allowing your denture to be secured in place.

Frequently Asked Questions  About All-on-4

Q. Will insurance cover All-on-4 dental implants?

A. Insurance plans do not cover dental implants but may contribute to other parts of your dental implant treatment like preparatory care and your restoration. However, our practice is not in network with dental insurance except Delta Dental. We believe this removes barriers and allows us to provide the highest level of care possible without insurance dictating our care. We will help you submit for reimbursement. We also accept CareCredit® to help finance treatment and offer a dental membership program that can reduce costs.

Q. How do I care for my restoration and implants?

A. One of the many benefits of implant-supported restorations is that you treat them just as you would natural teeth. Be sure to brush twice a day and floss under your implant-supported denture once a day. Maintain regular dental exams and cleanings at our Wichita office

Q. How long will my implants last?

A. Because implants are made of durable titanium, they are designed to last a lifetime. However, your denture will wear over time and eventually need to be replaced. With proper care, your restoration can last for up to 15 years or more.
